Student Union Parliament Meeting

On November 8th, a routine meeting of the Khazar University Student Union Parliament was held. Participants discussed several issues related to exams as well as future plans. Decisions were made to present identity cards in the near future to students who have been newly selected to the Parliament, to host the Khazar Chess Open, and to organize the third Student Union Knowledge Bowl. 


 


Meeting with Young Writers

On October 23, 2015, the Khazar University Student Union held a presentation was held of modern writer Galib Khalil’s book “Dünyanın üfüqləri yaxınlaşır” (The Horizons of the World are Approaching) at 12:00 in Room 206 on Khazar University’s main campus. The presentation was held in an interactive manner. The same writer also shared his thoughts on the Knowledge Bowl held at the university on October 18 in honor of Independence Day, noting that he enjoyed the event and thought it was interesting.

Then the book presentation began. The writer spoke interactively about how he wrote the book and about interesting facts; then discussions were held. Galib Khalil announced that the sequel to his book would be released at the end of November.

At the end of the event, group photos were taken. 


Knowledge Bowl Winners Awarded

On October 19, 2015, Khazar University President Hassan Niknafs and Director of the Public Relations and Media Department, Alovsat Amirbeyli, presented awards to the Knowledge Bowl that was held on the occasion of National Independence Day as organized by the Student Union. The first-place team (Nijat Ismayil, Fuad Ibrahimov, and Huseyn Huseynzade of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences) won certificates and 300 AZN; the second-place team (Parvin Rahimli, Aida Gasimova, and Abdullah Javadov of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences) won certificates and 150 AZN; and the third-place team (Jalal Huseynbeyli, Javid Babayev, and Kamran Huseynov of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences) won certificates and 75 AZN.

Other students who were actively involved in organizing the event (including Fatima Ganbarli, Ilaha Mammadova, Gulnar Aghayeva, Sevinj Binnatova, Jamila Hasanova, Leyla Guluzade, Sbrina Ramazanova and Turar Abdulkhaligov) were also given certificates of appreciation from the Student Union. 


 


Student Knowledge Bowl

On October 17, 2015, the Khazar University Student Union organized a Knowledge Bowl in the university’s Marble Hall on the occasion of National Independence Day. The competition judge was modern writer Galib Khalil, and Khazar students and staff came to watch the competition. Sixteen teams of students participated in the Bowl (4 from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; 4 from the School of Education; 3 from the School of Economics and Management; 3 from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and 2 from Dunya School). The competition was made up of 3 rounds (1st round was 27 questions for 39 points; the 2nd round was 30 questions for 42 points; and the 3rd round was 36 points).

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences’  first team took first place with 88 points (including Nijat Ismayil, Fuad Ibrahimov, and Huseyn Huseynzade). The School of Humanities and Social Sciences’  second team took second place with 77 points (including Parvin Rahimli, Aida Gasimova, and Abdullah Javadov). The other team from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences took third place with 74 points (including Jalal Huseynbeyli, Javid Babayev, and Kamran Huseynov). The other two teams to make it to the final round were both from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (with 72 points in fourth place and 69 points in fifth place).

Winners were awarded by Khazar University President Hassan Niknafs on October 19. They were given certificates and cash prizes (300 AZN for 1st place, 150 AZN for 2nd place, and 75 AZN for 3rd place). 

 
 


Student Union Parliament Meeting

On October 4, 2015, the 12th routine meeting of the Student Union Parliament was held. Student Union President Mirzeagha Semedov and 31 parliament members participated in the meeting. They discussed the dates and rules for sports competitions to be organized by the Student Union (volleyball, soccer and basketball for boys as well as volleyball for girls); work plans and committee members for sub-committees of the parliament; equipment needs of the university (cameras and projectors); complaints about the cafeteria; joint projects with NGO’s (Ireli and Level Up Center); and training-type meetings between university psychology instructors and students prior to mid-term exams.

Problems that students have faced in the new academic year were also discussed. First and foremost, students noted that the library and cafeteria hours do not suit the academic schedules of those who have classes after 18:30. They were also dissatisfied with computers in the library that are out of order. Additional complaints were made that the cafeteria is poorly ventilated, announcements were not made about student stipend distributions, there were problems with some projectors, and some classrooms were being used before their remodeling had completely been finished. The biggest complaint of the students was remodeling work taking place during class hours.

The majority of the issues above were supported by the Student Union Parliament. A decision was made that the Student Union President will write a related request for students to sign.

The next meeting will be held on October 18th on Khazar University’s main campus. 


ASYOU Student Youth Organizations’ Chairmen’s Meeting Held at Khazar

On September 26, 2015, a meeting for the chairmen of Student Youth Organizations (SYO) of the universities within the ASYOU network was held at Khazar University’s downtown campus. Representatives from the following universities participated in the meeting: Baku State University, Azerbaijan University, Azerbaijan Languages University, Azerbaijan State Economics University, Azerbaijan State Culture and Fine Arts University, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Azerbaijan Labor and Social Relations Academy; Azerbaijan Cooperation University; Azerbaijan National Conservatory; State Administration Academy of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic; Azerbaijan Technical University; Baku Eurasia University; Baku Business University; Baku Slavic University; Odlar Yurdu University; National Aviation Academy; Azerbaijan State Physical Training and Sports Academy; Azerbaijan Architecture and Construction University; Baku Higher Oil School; State Customs Committee Academy of the Azerbaijan Republic; Sumgayit State University; Baku Administration and Technology College; Baku Base Medical College number 2; Baku Communications and Transportation College; Baku Computer College; and Baku State Economics and Humanitarian College.

At the meeting, participants discussed ASYOU plans for the current academic year, projects and suggestions from chairmen; meetings between SYO Administration Councils and the ASYOU Executive Body; and the distribution of student and volunteer cards to students.

At the end of the meeting, certificates from ASYOU and Azerbaijan Republic Ministry of Youth and Sports were awarded to active members of Khazar University’s Student Union (SU).

Students given certificates included Mirzeagha Samadov, SU President and fourth-year student of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Jalala Huseynbeyli, SU Deputy to the President and second-year student; Mehman Asadli and Turkan Samadova, Parliament members and third-year students of the School of Education; Narmin Isayeva, second-year student of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and Kanan Atayev, Parliament member and fourth-year student of the School of Economics and Management.


Routine Student Union Meeting

On September 20, 2015, the 11th meeting of the Khazar University Student Union Parliament was held at 12:00 in room 206. Student Union President Mirzeagha Samadov and 26 parliament members participated in the meeting, in which they discussed the Student Union’s plans for the 2015-2016 academic year, the internal department divisions and executive body of the Student Union (SU), assistance from schools and departments of the university for upperclassmen to find internships, implementation of projects and competitions together with ASYOU and other NGOs, organizers’ suggestions to students about announcements for parties and holidays; the upcoming SU presidential election and meetings with the freshman class; and students’ use of items to be designed with the Khazar emblem.

In accordance with the 2015-2016 academic year calendar, the mini soccer competition season was scheduled to take place from the end of October to May 9th; while chess and knowledge bowl championships were scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd weeks of October. Suggestions were made to form girls’ volleyball teams and boys’ basketball teams, as well as to hold an inter-university marathon and volleyball championship.

The next meeting of the Parliament will take place on October 4th on Khazar University’s main campus.

 


  Meeting in Department of History and Archeology with Author of New Political Detective Novel

On September 18, 2015, a meeting was held in the Department of History and Archeology with Galib Khalil, the author of a new detective novel. The writer presented his new novel, which was published in Russian as “Приближаягоризонтымира” (The Horizons of the World are Approaching). Although the book was written in a political detective novel style, it dedicates a significant amount of space to describing human relationships. During the meeting, the author informed the participats about the book in detail.

Roza Arazova, Head of the Department of History and Archeology; Dr. Farda Asadov, Vice President for International Affairs; Laman Babashli, assistant to the Department of History and Archeology; Mirzeaga Samadov, President of the Student Union; and Nizami Aliyev, president of the Book Club, participated in the meeting.

Another presentation for the book is planned to be held in Khazar University in the near future. At the meeting, paricipants also discussed the time for the presentation.

 


Victory in Futsal Scrimmage

On September 2nd, a futsal scrimmage was held between Khazar University and ADA University on the Tennis Academy sports field. The Khazar team included Nurkhan Jafarov (goalie), Niyaz Ilyasov (defender), Murad Balagadashov (forward, captain), and Ismail Huseynov (forward) from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Orkhan Zeynalov (midfielder) and Babir Madatov (defender) from the School of Education; and Yannik Agbou (forward) from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Khazar won the game with a score of 7:6. 

 

 


On 10-14 August 2015 Youth Training and Leisure Center in Dashkesan hosted Model UN Summer School. The ultimate goal of this School that brought together up to 80 participants from different universities of Azerbaijan, was to foster the interest of youth to international relations and diplomacy, as well as share experience with young diplomats and make them more familiar with UN bodies.

 

Discussions on the topics as "Ensuring the security of international air space" and "Representation of women in top management positions" were held in the format of the UN General Assembly. Along with 3-days simulation, Model UN Summer School also included training sessions on further development of research, speaking and presentation skills.

This Summer School was held within the framework of the joint project "Creating new platforms to support active youth engagement in the global policy debates" between UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This project includes the components as establishment of Model United Nations (Model UN) network in Azerbaijan and holding the National Model UN (National MUN) conference. We would like to remind that Model UN Summer School serves as preparatory stage to the National Model UN conference.

The Summer School was scheduled for these dates on purpose: the project partners will unite on August 12 to celebrate the International Youth Day. Note that the main theme of this year's International Youth Day was volunteering and promotion of a greater role for young people in the future Sustainable Development Agenda (post-2015).

Model United Nations (Model UN) is a type of non-formal education and simulation game enabling young people to play the roles of diplomats and ambassadors, to study international relations more closely and to advance relevant knowledge and skills. On the basis of the actual policies of the countries they represent, participants explore their political positions and develop political views to be able to speak in compliance with the political positions of those countries. The objective of the game is teaching youth such skills as leadership, public negotiation and the ways to make compromises.

From Khazar University Sabrina Ramazanova, Pervin Rahamli, Khaqani Qasimov, Ismail Guseynli, Nicat Ismail, Yannik Agbour, Arif Imanov participated here and got certificates.

 

 

 


On 8-22 July Konfuse department of Baku State University hold on Summer Camp at Anhui University ( China). From Khazar University the President of Student Union Mirzagha Samadov participated at Summer Camp.

 

 Student from Azerbaijan, Russia, Chile, Poland, Mexico, France and Ukraine visited historical museums and places in Pekin, Xifei and Anhui.

All participants took certificates after Camp.

 


 


On the 12-28 June First Europe Games hold in Baku. From Khazar University about 50 students were volunteers during the games.

 


Students at Archeological Dig

 On June 2, 2015, students majoring in history in the Khazar University School of Education visited Aghsu to participate in an archeological expedition organized with the support of MIRAS (Public Union to Support Cultural Heritage Studies) and led by Doctor of History Gafar Jabiyev. Participating students included Vusal Hasanov, Nurmammad Mammadov, Babir Madatov, Murad Mammadli, and Zaur Mutallimov.

The “Heritage of Azerbaijan History and Architecture in the Eyes of Youth” Art Competition which began in May is supported by the Youth Fund of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic and its partners include the Archeology and Ethnography Institute of ANAS, Khazar University, the State Administration Academy of the President of Azerbaijan Republic, Azerbaijan State Economics University, Gazelli Group, Baku Business Center and the Public Union for Assistance to Economics Students. The main objective was to raise awareness about cultural heritage among youth.

On May 9th, the first technical evaluation of submitted works was carried out in Khazar University’s Cultural Center under the leadership of well-known textile artist Afag Karimova.

On May 22nd, works were exhibited on the terrace of the Atropat Hotel and participants accepted to the final round were announced by Arif Huseynov, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan; Ilgar Akbarov, member of the Azerbaijan Artists’ Union and Deputy Chairman of the Art Committee of the Azerbaijan representation for International Artist Activists Association; Ziyadkhan Aliyev, art specialist; Mubariz Gadirov, representative of the Youth Fund of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic; Associate Professor Ibrahimkhalil Ibrahimov of the State Administration and Management Department of the State Administration Academy of the President of Azerbaijan Republic; Afag Karimova, Director of the Khazar University Carpet Museum; Kamala Jafarzade, director of the Fine Arts Gallery and Deputy Director of Innovative Projects at the Tofig Ismayilov Children’s and Youth Creative Center; Seyran Mammadov, director of Baku Business Center; Ulker Khudiyeva, representative of Gazelli Group; and Fuad Huseynov, head of the Applied Information Technologies in Archeology Sector of the ANAS Archeology and Ethnography Institute.

Associate Professor Roza Arazova, Head of the Department of History and Archeology at Khazar University, also participated in the event.

 

On June 6th, the final round of the competition was held at Baku Business Center. Winners were announced by members of the jury, including Professor Maisa Rahimova, Director of the ANAS Archeology and Ethnography Institute; Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees; People’s Artist Aghaeli Ibrahimov, Secretary of the Artists’ Union; Associate Professor Firdovsiyya Ahmadova, Department Chair of the State Administration Academy of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic; Gulara Aliyeva, Assistant to the President for General Affairs of Gazelli Group; Farman Gasimov, sculptor; and Ramin Jafarov, Youth Fund representative of the Presidential Administration of the Azerbaijan Republic.

 

According to the jury’s decision, first-year student of Khazar University School of Humanities and Social Sciences Aytaj Hafizova took 1st place with her painting “Azerbaijan;” and first-year student of the Khazar University School of Economics and Management Lamiya Muslimova took 3rd place with her work “Shirvanshahlar’s Palace.”  Zohre Saatova, student of the School Number 115 named after Azer Mammadov of the Binagadi District, took 2nd place with “Icherisheher.”

Jury members made speeches about the importance of the contest in the context of preserving national values as well as the young artists’ praiseworthy works. At the end of the event, the winners were announced. Gazelli Group, sponsor of the project, gave valuable gifts to the winners. They were also given certificates from the Archeology and Ethnography Institute. 

 


Young Historians Congratulate Professor Maisa Rahimova

On May 21st, Nurmammad Mammadov and Vusal Hasanov, third-year history majors studying in the Department of History and Archeology, congratulated Professor Maisa Rahimova, Director of the ANAS Archeology and Ethnography Institute, on her birthday on behalf of the History Department and young historians. They thanked her for her contributions and her active work in the process of educating the young generation of historians. 


School of Education Students Meet with Archeologist Ilyas Babayev

On May 15, 2015, 15 students majoring in History/Geography in the School of Education met with well-known archeologist Professor Ilyas Babayev, Director of the Ancient Gebele and Ancient Shamkir Archeological Expedition. During the meeting, Ilyas Babayev told the students about archeological research, everyday activities in the expedition and future archeological digs. He noted that students are welcome to volunteer for the archeological dig that will be organized this August-September. 


Students visit Azerkosmos

On May 7, 2015, the Khazar University Techno Club organized a visit to the Main Ground Satellite Control Center of Azerkosmos. Around 30 students participated in the trip.

Employees of Azerkosmos showed the students their institution’s building. In the Tusi Conference Room, satellite engineers gave students detailed information about the national AZERSPACE-1 and AZERSKY artificial satellites, including their mission, structure, location in orbit, characteristics, objectives, and position in the economic market. Then the students visited the radio receiver station and learned about how the 11-meter, 6-meter and 3-meter diameter satellite dishes receive signals, separate internet and TV signals, and transmit signals to subscribers.

At the end of the trip, the directors of Azerkosmos gave gifts to the students and a group photo was taken. The students commented that their visit had been interesting.

This was the final event put on by the Techno Club for the 2014-2015 academic year. The leadership of the club is planning various trips, visits and seminars for the next academic year.

Soccer Championship Ends

On May 11, 2015, the final round of the Khazar University Student Union soccer championship was held on the main sports ground of the Tennis Academy. The final round was played between the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Education. The School of Education won by 5-4 and won the title of Champion of the Khazar University Intramural Championship for the year 2015.

Finalists were given certificates to individual players for various categories: Best Shooters went to Murad Balaqadashov, captain of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences team (8 goals) and Babir Madatov, forward for the School of Education team (7 goals); Best Goalie went to Nurkhan Jafarov, Goalie for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences team; Best Defender went to Rustam Nuriyev of the School of Education team; and Best Player went to Yannik Agbor of the School of Education team. and the winning team was given Khazar University t-shirts.

Khazar Students Reach Mountain Peak

On May 10, 2015, Kanan Ayatev, Ibrahim Sadigov and Namiq Mammadzada, leading students of the Khazar University Velo Club, planted a Khazar University flag on Heydar Aliyev Peak in honor of Heydar Aliyev’s 92nd birthday. 


 “Heritage of Azerbaijan History and Architecture in the Eyes of Youth” Art Competition

On May 9, 2015, one of the first events related to the artistic project entitled “Heritage of Azerbaijan History and Architecture in the Eyes of Youth” was held in Khazar University’s museum and Cultural Center. The project is supported by the Youth Fund of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic and its partners include the Archeology and Ethnography Institute of ANAS, Khazar University, the State Administration Academy of the President of Azerbaijan Republic, Azerbaijan State Economics University, Gazelli Group, and Baku Business Center. Participants in the event included the project director, young volunteers, employees of the above organizations and honored guests who specialize in the arts and cultural heritage.

The first technical evaluation of submissions to the competition was completed under the leadership of Afag Karimova, well-known textile artist.

The event was held with the support of the Khazar University Multimedia Center and the School of Education.

 


“Firsts of Azerbaijan and the World” Knowledge Bowl

On May 9, 2015, the “Firsts of Azerbaijan and the World” Knowledge Bowl, which was organized by the Khazar University Student Union, was held at Dunya School. Teams representing each school of Khazar University (Humanities and Social Sciences- 3 teams; Engineering and Applied Sciences- 2 teams; Economics and Management- 2 teams; Education- 1 team) and Dunya School participated in the event. 

The competition consisted of 3 rounds and 27 global questions. The 1st Humanities and Social Sciences team took first place with 22 points (Nijat Ismayil, Fuad Ibrahimov and Aydan Shirmammadova); the School of Education team took second place with 20 points (Nizami Aliyev, Nurmammad Mammadov and Vusal Hasanov), and the 2nd team of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences took third place with 19 points (Jalal Huseynbeyli, Kamran Mikayilov and Javid Babayev).

The Student Union presented certificates and cash prizes to the winning teams (1st place- 300 AZN, 2nd place- 150 AZN, and 3rd place- 75 AZN).



 Meeting with Veterans

On May 7, 2015, an event was held at the Khazar University School of Economics and Management to mark the 70th anniversary of World War II and Heydar Aliyev’s 92nd birthday as well as to present the book “Duyğular” (Feelings) by Haji Samad Kalantarli.

War veterans participating in the event included Anna Atakishiyeva, Leonid Perevidski, Aleksandr Andropov, Professor Malahat Kalantarli, Torakhanim Huseynova, Malahat Hatammova and Goyarchin Mustafayeva. At the beginning of the event, a short video about the war was shown. Then students recited several poems from the “Duyğular” (Feelings) book.

At the end of the event, Haji Samad Kalantarli took the stage together with his wife, Nana Kalantarli, and expressed his gratitude to the students for preparing this event. 

   


Techno Club Organizes Seminar

On May 6, 2015, the Khazar University Techno Club held a seminar with members of the IT EDU company at the university. The seminar gave students detailed information about the Windows Server 2012 R2 platform and its system administration.

Discount coupons for IT EDU courses were given to students who actively participated and asked questions at the seminar.  The students reported that they were pleased with the seminar.

This was one of the final events put on by the Techno Club for the 2014-2015 academic year. The leadership of the club is planning various trips, visits and seminars for the next academic year.


  Last Tests of Solar Car

On May 6, 2015, a group of students from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences who are designing a solar vehicle completed the final tests of the car. Nuru Safarov, Head of the Department of Electronics, led the group in their preparations and testing. They determined the car’s load limit and energy parameters. The tests were successful and the solar car is now completely ready.


Presentation about Model UN Club

On May 4, 2015, representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Azerbaijan Republic made a presentation to students at Khazar University about the creation of a Model UN Club as part of the project on “The Creation of Support for the Active Participation of Youth in Global Politics Discussions,” which is a joint project of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the UN Development Program. They noted that the Model UN is an informal form of education that creates an opportunity for youth to role-play as ambassadors and diplomats, learn more about international relations, and increase their knowledge and skills. The presentation was held in a discussion format. Participants included students majoring in political science, international relations and regional studies. A decision was made to form a Model UN club at Khazar. 

 



Student Trip to Agsu

On May 3, 2015, third-year students majoring in History and Geography Education participated in an archeological dig in the city of Agsu with the coordination of the Department of History and Geography and Miras Public Union to Support the Study of Cultural Heritage. First, they commemorated the 1130 Turkish soldiers who lost their lives when they came to the aid of Baku during the genocide in March 1918. Then they participated in a tree-planting ceremony organized by Miras Public Union to Support the Study of Cultural Heritage.

 Later, the students were familiarized with the archeological site which is temporarily named “3rd excavation area.” Findings at this site include workshops for coppersmiths, blacksmiths, painters, and those who craft with bones. These rooms included very rare stone and metal molds, many copper plates that had been cut in order to pound them into coins, and glass and china dishes that had been manufactured in London and other cities of Europe. For the first time in Azerbaijan, coins stamped with “Lahij” were found here in Agsu, where archeological work is still underway. Fariz Khalili, head of the Miras Public Union, and Dr. Gafar Jabiyev, chief of the Agsu archeological expedition, gave the students detailed information about the site.



 Trip to Khudat

On May 2, 2015, third-year students of the Khazar University School of Education organized a trip to the Khudat settlement in the Khachmaz region. Vurghun Eyyub, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature, and Zivar Huseynli, Persian language instructor, also went on the trip. The students and faculty members spent time in the Tel forest, a scenic area of Khudat, where they played games, recited poems and ate lunch. 


 Malaysia Day at Khazar University

On May 2, 2015, the Khazar University School of Economics and Management held an open lesson about Malaysia in cooperation with the Embassy of Malaysia. The Embassy provided participating students with national clothing, magazines, booklets, etc.

During this lesson, students were given valuable information about Malaysian education, military service, tourism, medicine, culture and cuisine, and the economy of the country. The most interesting issues discussed by the participants of the lesson were the country’s economic condition and the state of education. Varied information about education provided the students with new perspectives and in-depth knowledge about studying in Malaysia.

The country also attracted the students’ attention because its official religion is Islam. Malaysia ranks 21st in exports and 25th in imports in the world. The interesting fact was shared that the majority of food products consumed by the inhabitants of the country are made of natural and pure, bio-friendly substances. This open lesson fascinated all the students with a range of unusual and amazing facts about Malaysia.


   Writing Workshop: Third Session by EducationUSA

On May 1, the International Affairs Office, in collaboration with EducationUSA, organized another presentation in a series of presentations about studying in the USA. This presentation, in the form of a writing workshop, was held on the Neftchilar Campus of Khazar University.

The writing workshop provided students with practical information on writing motivation letters, personal statements, and essays. The workshop ended with a question and answer session.

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers providing accurate, comprehensive, and current information about accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States. 

 


Class about 70-Year Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany

On April 30, 2015, Orkhan Zamanov, instructor of the Department of History and Archeology, held a class dedicated to the topic of the 70-Year Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany.

During the class, he showed students decorations and medals from the Soviet period and World War II, giving detailed information about them. 


Renowned Iraqi Professor Delivers Lecture at Khazar

On April 27, Dr. Ali Nashmi Hamidi Abbas Al-Maliki, a renowned professor from Mustansiriya University (Baghdad, Iraq), delivered a lecture for Khazar University students and faculty. The event was held on the Neftchilar campus of Khazar University. The lecture was jointly coordinated by the International Office and the Department of Political Science and International Relations. 
The lecture, entitled "Historical Relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq," was of a great interest to all event participants. Dr. Ali Nashmi Hamidi Abbas Al-Maliki spoke about diplomatic and other relations between the two countries, their history and current status. He also covered the challenges currently faced by Iraqi people and provided his perspective on ways they could be addressed. The lecture ended with a question and answer session. 

  


Student Trip to Guba

On April 26, 2015, a group of Khazar University students and staff made a trip to visit Guba. The group included Mirzeagha Semedov, Student Union President; Aziza Jafarli, Vice President; active members of the Student Union Parliament; Yegane Balamedova, instructor of the English department; and Rustam Hasanov, Chairman of the Student Council of Dunya School.

While in Guba, the group viewed the local forests, mountains and lakeside. They were also filmed on the “Yolchu” travel program of the Khazar TV channel. 


Second Round of Intramural Futsal Tournament

On April 26, 2015, the second round of the Student Union Futsal Tournament was held. The round included two matches.  In the first match, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences team beat the School of Economics and Management team with a score of 7-3, becoming the first team to make it to the final round. In the second match, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences team was disqualified for failure to obey the rules, so it was given a technical defeat, and the School of Education team won with a score of 3-0.

In the first round of the tournament, held on April 19th, the matches were randomly selected as follows: School of Humanities and Social Sciences vs. School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; School of Economics and Management vs. School of Education.  In the first round the School of Humanities and Social Sciences won its match with a score of 6-0 and the School of Education won its match with a score of 6-4.

The games are held at the Dunya School sports complex. Referees are Student Union president Mirzeagha Semedov and International Office staff member Vugar Guluzadeh.

The final round will be held on May 9th between the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Education. 


Petroleum Engineering Students at 20th Student Academic Conference

On April 25th, the Azerbaijan Society of Petroleum Geologists (ASPG) and European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) held their 20th Student Academic Conference at Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. The conference included three sections: General and Petroleum Geology, Geophysics, and Petroleum Engineering. 

Yannick Agbor, first-year master student (“Petrophysical evaluation of shaly-sand based on well log and core data  –Well A, Field Y, North Eastern Niger Delta”); Arif Imanov, second-year bachelor’s student (“Hydrocarbon Seepage of mud volcanoes and their relation with oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan”), Kamran Abbasov, second-year bachelor’s student (“Depositional environment of Lower Pliocene sandstones  and hydrocarbon prospects of the Nakhchivan field, South Caspian Basin”), and Farid Hasanov, second-year bachelor’s student (“Geological structure  and oil and gas prospects of the Bandovan field”). 

Under the academic supervision of Dr. Nazim Nasibov, instructor for the department, the following students presented papers:

Usama Ahmed Khand, first-year master student (“De-liquefaction of loaded up wells through capillary string soap injection”) and Rashid Salmanov, third-year bachelor’s student (“Environmental problems of hydrocarbon production”).

At the end of the conference, Y. Agbor was selected as presenter of the best lecture in the Geophysics section. For this reason, his supervisor G.Zeynalov was also awarded with a special gift. 

 

 


On April 24, 2015, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Azerbaijan organized a K-Pop music festival in Baku. This festival was part of the K-Pop World Festival, an annual event organized by South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After preliminary competitions are held, fans of K-Pop are invited by the South Korean government to take part in the final round of the competition held every year in Changwan.

 

The Baku K-Pop Festival was held at the University of Foreign Languages. Seventeen teams competed in the festival by singing Korean songs and performing dances. Three of the participants were from Khazar University: Shabnam Bakhshakiyeva, Gunel Sabzaliyeva and Gulshan Rustamova. Gulshan’s charming voice impressed the jury, and she took first place.

This Festival took place for the first time in Baku last year at Baku State University. Last year Pinar Alekperzadeh, a graduate of Khazar University, took first place in the competition. 


 “Leadership and Success Factors” Presentation

On April 23, 2015, several presentations were made by students of the Khazar University School of Economics and Management on the topic of Leadership and Success Factors. Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, and Chingiz Abdullayev, Azerbaijan People’s Writer, participated in the event as honored guests.  Discussions were held on the topic of leadership in the business of education as well as in the fields of literature and fine arts. The guests spoke from their personal experience.

At the end of the event, the guests answered students’ questions. 



Student Union Parliament Meeting

On April 19th, 2015, a regular meeting of the Student Union Parliament was held in the downtown campus (122 Bashir Safaroghlu St.) in the World Hall. Student Union President Mirzeagha Samadov opened the meeting by talking about items on the agenda including changes to the Student Union Regulations, a control system for final exams to be put into place by students, and knowledge bowl events.

Students who were newly selected to the Parliament between October 2014 and March 2015 (25 students) spoke about their ideas they would like to see implemented at the university.

The next Parliament meeting will be held on May 3rd on the Neftchilar campus of Khazar University. 



Graphic Design Training for Khazar Students

The Khazar University Techno Club has been offering training sessions every Saturday on the Neftchilar Campus since November 11, 2014. A professional designer invited to the university, Kamran Ibrahimli, leads the trainings, which teach students about graphic design and how to work with design programs. Students completing the training will know how to use the Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Corel Draw, and Sony Vegas programs as well as other tools.

The second half of the training will begin in the next academic year. Students will be able to acquire knowledge about HTML, CSS and other web developing programs and programming languages.

 Khazar Students in Debate Championship

On April 15, 2015, Khazar University took second place in the debate championship held at Qafqaz University by Asian Development Bank.

Along with Khazar University’s single team, two teams from each of the following universities participated in the championship: Qafqaz University, ADA University, the State Administration Academy of the President of Azerbaijan Republic, and the Tourism and Management University.

Khazar’s team, organized by the Student Union, included Elnur Badalov of the School of Economics and Management; Huseyn Huseynli of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Narmin Isayeva of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The team administrator was Mirzeaga Samadov, Student Union President, and the photographer was Tarlan Mammadli of the Multimedia Center.

The Khazar student team beat the team from the Tourism and Management University in the first round and the team from the State Administration Academy of the President of Azerbaijan Republic in the semi-final. During the final, however, they were defeated by the “Leader” team from ADA University by two points.

Khazar University student Narmin Isayeva was named Best Speaker of the event. 

 

 


Students Visit Numismatics Museum

On April 10, 2015, a group of students majoring in History Education within the Khazar University School of Education, along with instructors and administrators of the History and Archeology Department, visited the Numismatics Museum located within the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Preserve.

 


“Depression and Suicide” Writing Competition Results

On April 9, 2015, an awards ceremony was held for the “Depression and Suicide” creative writing contest held by the Khazar University Psychology and Consultation Center in collaboration with “Düşüncə” (Thought) Journal. 100 essays were submitted to the contest, and 36 of them were chosen. They were checked by professional specialists in the field.

Four individuals were chosen as winners. One of them, Samir Imanov, who is also disabled, was awarded first prize. Then specialists gave information about suicide and depression from psychological, legal and philosophical perspectives. Speeches were made by Elnur Rustemov, family psychologist, Director of the Psychology and Consultation Center, and ANAS researcher; Akif Alizada, lawyer; and Mail Yagub, Head of the Philosophy department.

 
     

 

 


 

 

Study in UK Presentation

On April 9, the International Affairs Office, in Collaboration with BEB Education Group, organized a presentation about studying in the United Kingdom on Khazar University’s downtown campus. The presentation was delivered by Nilufar Rashidova, the Director of the International Office at the University of East Anglia.

 

 


 

 

 Student Field Trip to Medical Center’s Diagnostic Laboratory

On April 7, 2015, a group of students from the School of Education went on a field trip to the diagnostic laboratory of the “Saghlam Aile” Medical Center, where Dr. Irada Khalilova, the Khazar University Biology Department Head, and employees of the medical center laboratory spoke to them about scientific research and clinical diagnostic methods used in the lab as well as equipment and its rules for use. Laboratory workers taught the students the rules for encoding and testing biomaterials, and they demonstrated procedures such as biochemical analysis, coagulation, microscopy, immunoferment analysis, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). They answered students’ questions. 


Student Union Parliament Meeting

On April 5, 2015, a meeting of the Student Union Parliament was held in the Khazar University Conference Hall. At the meeting, presentations were made by Student Union President Mirzeaga Samadov, Vice President Aziza Jafarli, and Deputies Ruslan Ismayilov, Jalal Huseynbeyli, and Jeyhun Jabayev.

A discussion was held about boys’ soccer championships, a girls’ volleyball championship, knowledge bowls, a general referendum and scheduling issues for training. Each school selected a color to differentiate them from the other schools in competitions:

  1. Engineering and Applied Sciences:  red;
  2. Economics and Management: blue;
  3. Humanities and Social Sciences: orange;

Education: green.

 From March 15 to 28, 2015, Members of the Khazar University student body were involved in promoting the artistic project entitled “Heritage of Azerbaijan History and Architecture in the Eyes of Youth” which was held with the financial support of the Youth Fund of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic. Khazar University is one of the main partners in the project, which aims to raise awareness of Baku’s historical architectural landmarks by means of an art competition.

The project idea author of “Heritage of Azerbaijan History and Architecture in the Eyes of Youth” and volunteers drew pictures of several landmarks and obtained information about them. 


 

 


 

Novruz Celebration at Khazar

On March 19, as organized by the Student Union of the university with the active participation of students, the Novruz holiday was celebrated at Khazar Unversity.  Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees; Isakhan Isakhanli, Vice President for Student Affairs and Administration; deans and department heads; and staff participated in the event.

Mirzeaga Samadov, President of Student Union, made a speech to congratulate participants on the occasion of Novruz.

After a holiday fire was lit, students and staff enjoyed music and dancing. The celebration ended in a pleasant atmosphere.

 
 

 



 

Khazar Students Accepted to Final Round of International Championship

On March 17, 2015, Masail Guliyev and Farid Ismayilov, third-year students of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, took second place in the European Regional Qualification round of the PetroBowl games held in London by International Petroleum Engineering Society. They qualified for the PetroBowl International Championship which will be held in Houston (USA) in September. The Khazar University team for the final championship will include third-year students Masail Guliyev, Farid Ismayilov and Fuad Jannatov as well as second-year student Arif Imanov. 


 


 

   Khazar University Delegation Visits Kayseri

On March 15, upon the invitation of Erciyes University, a delegation from Khazar University visited the city of Kayseri.Active student of student Union were members of delegation.



Student Union Parliament Meeting

On March 14, 2015, a meeting of the Khazar University Student Union Parliament was held in the World Conference Hall of Khazar University. The meeting included speeches by Mirzeagha Samadov, Stuent Union President; Aziza Jafarli, Vice President; and Deputies Ruslan Ismayilov, Jalal Huseynbeyli, and Jeyhun Jabayev. Discussions were held about discipline in the School of Economics and Management as well as the organization of a Novruz celebration in the university.

The Novruz celebration was set for March 19th at 15:00-18:00 in the courtyard of the Neftchilar campus. The celebration will include a bonfire and a tea party arranged by students of each school. The students can participate by preparing or buying sweets, decorating tables, or preparing music or dance numbers.


 


MIRAS (Public Union to Support Cultural Heritage Studies) Conference at Khazar

On March 10th, MIRAS (Public Union to Support Cultural Heritage Studies) held a conference at Khazar University entitled “Cultural Heritage and Archeological Tourism Conference” with the joint coordination of the Department of History and Archeology and the Student Union. The opening speech was made by Alovsat Amirbeyli, Director of Public Relations and Media. Then Faris Khalilli, Chairman of MIRAS, gave a lecture about the archeological tourism complex showing the medieval city of Aghsu. At the end of the event, Faris Khalilli invited Khazar students to visit the Mehravan Tower (a remnant of Caucasian Albania) and participate in an archeology camp that will be organized by the Aghsu archeological expedition. 


 


 Students Visit Dunya School

On March 5th, the Khazar University Student Union organized a trip to the university’s affiliate Dunya School. Mirzeagha Samadov, Student Union President; Aziza Jafarli, Vice President; Jalal Huseynbeyli, Deputy; and Student Union Parliament members participated in the trip. Rustam Hasanov, Chairman of the Student Council of Dunya School, greeted the guests. They toured the school’s library, laboratories, cafeteria, gymnasium, swimming pool, and preschool facilities. 

 

 

 


 

Student Union Wins “Key of Education” Award

On December 19, the Binagadi District Executive Power held the “Azerbaijan Youth Educational Forum” with the joint coordination of the “My Education, My Future!” campaign and the Educational Center for Youth Public Union. Representatives of the Executive Power participated in the Forum, along with students from various universities and representatives of organizations working with youth.

At the Forum, the Khazar University Student Union was awarded the “Key of Education” award because of its awareness-raising activities among youth last year. The award was presented to Mirzeagha Samadov, Student Union President, by Khaladdin Isgenderov, head of the Binagadi District Executive Power.

We congratulate our Student Union on this award and wish them further success.

 


 

 

   Holiday at Children’s Home

On December 23rd, students of the Khazar University School of Economics and Management organized a holiday celebration at Children’s Home number 3. Their visit made the children of the home very glad. A performance was given by Leyla Mahmudova, first-year student (emcee); Zeyneb Seyidova, first-year student (Snow Girl); and Ruslan Ismayilov, third-year student (Santa).

Mirzeaga Samadov, President of the Khazar University Student Union, made a speech wishing the children a happy holiday. The university dance ensemble performed several beautiful dances for the children. In turn, the children performed several musical scenes for the visitors.

Then gifts were given to all the children. The children’s home also presented gifts to Khazar University, including a carpet they had made by hand and a tree made out of Evil Eye beads. The holiday celebration ended in a mood of joy and gladness.



 

 

 

Student Wins Award

On January 10th, a ceremony was held in Modern Hotel on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the creation of MIRAS Public Union for Support of Cultural Heritage Studies. At the ceremony, Vusal Hasanov ( School of Education, Geography teacher, 4th year Parliament member), Khazar University’s fifth-year student, was given a MIRAS award because of his participation in MIRAS conferences and events, his support of awareness-raising activities related to cultural heritage, and his work in forging ties between MIRAS and Khazar University.

 


 

 

 

 Visit to Martyrs’ Cemetery

On January 19th, a group of faculty, staff, students and Student Union members from Khazar University visited the Martyrs’ Cemetery. They placed a wreath in front of the memorial on behalf of the university, then they also visited the Turk Martyrs’ memorial and placed carnations in front of it.

Among the participants in the memorial ceremony were Alovsat Amirbeyli, Director of Public Relations and Media; Vurghun Eyyub, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature; Jabir Mammadli, Head of the Department of Journalism; Rovshan Abbasov, Head of the Department of Geography and Environment; Turan Jafarova, Head of the International Affairs Office; Irada Khalilova, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences; Jeyhun Karimov, Coordinator of the Department of English Language and Literature; and Mirzeagha Semedov, President of the Student Union.

First Meeting of Student Union Parliament

On January 26th, the first meeting of the Student Union Parliament (SUP) was held in the Khazar University Marble Hall. Participants in the meeting included members of the SUP; Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees; Isakhan Isakhanli, Vice President for Administration and Student Affairs; Farda Asadov, Vice President for International Affairs; Alovsat Amirbeyli, Director of Public Relations and Media; and other deans of schools and heads of departments. The meeting began with a moment of silence in memory of Anar Rustamov, 2nd year student of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Presentations were made at the meeting by Mirzeagha Samadov, president of the Student Union; Aziza Jafarli, Vice President; Ruslan Ismayilov, Student Union deputy in charge of the Parliament; Nurana Guluzada, deputy in charge of the SU website; and Jeyhun Jabayev, deputy in charge of organizational work.

Discussions were held during the meeting about the Student Union’s plans for training events, final exam results, pros and cons of the sims.khazar.org website, the work of exam proctors, issues with obtaining exam materials, and other issues that the students raised.

At the end of the event, H. Isaxanli answered students’ questions. 

 



 

 

Students at International Cultural Heritage and Tourism Youth Forum

On February 1-2, the I International Cultural Heritage and Tourism Youth Forum was held in Baku. The event, which was held by the “Miras” (Heritage) Public Union for the Support of Cultural Heritage Studies, was entitled “Research, Preserve and Promote!” The event included representatives from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Georgia, Norway, Tajikistan, Italy, Egypt, Spain and other countries. Students from Khazar University’s School of Education participated as audience members in the forum and were given certificates.

In addition, Vusal Hasanova, first-year student of the School of Education, was given a certificate for active participation in the organization of this event. 

 


 

 

 Conference on Khazar University Technopark and MITEK Group of Companies (Turkey)

On February 6, a conference on Khazar University Technopark and MITEK Group of Companies (Turkey) was held in the university’s Marble Hall with the support of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communications and High Technologies. Participants included the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan, senior officials including the deputy ministers from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, the Head of the Baku City Nizami District Executive Body along with the Deputy Heads of several Baku administrative districts, members of parliament, businessmen from Azerbaijan and Turkey, and Khazar University faculty and staff members.

 Student Union Seminar on “Success and Responsibility”

On Febaruary 6th, the Student Union held a seminar in the Khazar University World Conference Hall entitled “Success and Responsibility.” The seminar included the following topics: “Successful Career,” “Setting Goals,” “Being Successful or Unsuccessful,” and “Chance, Luck, and Destiny.”

The trainer was Fakhri Aghayev, a graduate of Marmara University (Turkey) who has worked as the director of the following companies: Duravit AG, Nurgun Holding, Caspian Express LTD, Avropa LTD, Subaru Azerbaijan, Hyundai Azerbaijan, Çiniçi, and Embawood LLC. He is currently working as a business consultant and teaching Business Management classes at Qafqaz University. He also has experience in teaching courses in Time Management and Personal Effectiveness.

At the end of the seminar, participants shared their experiences and asked questions.


 

 

Presentation on Rules of Microsoft Imagine Cup

On February 10th, Emin Akhundov, Manager of the Cooperation in Education Program at Microsoft Azerbaijan, met with students majoring in Computer Science and Computer Engineering of the School of Engineering, members of Techno Club and Applied Science at Khazar University. The purpose of the meeting was to recruit students for the "Microsoft Imagine Cup" innovative competition, which will be held in Azerbaijan, and to familiarize them with the rules of the competition.

The competition, which will be held with the participation of students from various educational institutions, includes three major categories: "Games", "Innovation" and "World Citizenship." The winners in each category of the national qualifying round will make it to the International Semi-final to be held online in May of this year. Successful candidates in the semi-final stage will have the right to represent Azerbaijan in the final stage to be held in Seattle, USA, in July of this year.

 

 

 


 

 

   Winners of “Most Active Reader” Award

On February 12th, the Khazar University Library-Information Center (LIC) held an event entitled “Befriend a book; be the most active reader!” in the Khazar University Marble Hall. The results of the “Most Active Reader” competition from 2014 were announced at the event by a group of librarians, who defined the following criteria for determining the student and staff winners: number of books read; amount of reading halls used; and observance of LIC rules.

Among the staff, the winners was Huseyn Huseynli ( School of Humanities, Political science, 4th year Parliament member) (3rd place). Honorable mention certificates and gifts were presented to others as well.


 

 


 

 

Real English Presentation

On February 18th, the Khazar University Career Center organized a presentation of Real English courses for students on the Neftchilar campus and Parliament of Student Union. The presentation was made by Ravan Soltanov of Real English, who explained that the “Real English R.E.P.” (“Think in English”) Course is the first and only course of its kind in Azerbaijan.

The presentation covered the course’s theoretical approach, psychological factors, strategies to think in English; the shortcomings of the English language in various fields in Azerbaijan; correct ways to measure English proficiency and other topics. At the end of the event, participants were given booklets and their questions were answered. 

 

 


 

 

  International Symposium on “Science and Technology in Islamic Civilization” Begins

On February 20th, the International Symposium on “Science and Technology in Islamic Civilization” which was jointly coordinated by Khazar University and IRCICA (Research Center for Islamic Art, Science and History) began at Khazar. During the opening ceremony of the symposium, Prof. Hamlet Isaxanli, Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, gave a speech to welcome all the participants and share brief information about the significance of the history of science and its role in Islamic civilization. Then Prof. Halit Eren, Director of IRCICA, spoke about the role of the institution, which is dedicated to researching various aspects of Islamic culture. He stated that the symposium would also make its own contribution to these activities.

His Excellency Ismail Alper Coskun, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan, noted that among all the interesting events organized in support of the development of scholarship in Khazar University, this symposium devoted to science in the Islamic world was particularly significant. Academic Vasim Mamadaliyev also spoke about Islam’s contributions to the world cultural history and wished success to this conference, which aimed to bring clarity to this relatively understudied field in Azerbaijan.

On February 20th, a workshop on marketing was held for Russian-speaking students of the Khazar University Student Union. Alexander Maharramov, the president of the Business Dialogue business club and experienced marketing specialist, gave a training on “Modern Marketing Ideas,” “4 Main Factors in Marketing,” “How to Present Goods to Consumers,” “How Customers and Professionals Should Interact” and other themes.


 

 


 

 

   News Group Meeting

On February 24th, a meeting of the university staff (Mirzagha Samadov and Aziza Jafarli President and Vice-president of Student Union) members responsible for writing news articles and submitting them to the News Group was held. At the meeting, Alirza Balayev, the head of the News Group; Natella Barkaya, Multimedia Center Director; and Alovsat Amirbeyli, Director of Public Relations and Media made presentations about problems with the preparation, submission and electronic publication of news copy and photographs. They made recommendations to the participants and answered questions.

 


 


 

 

Khojaly Genocide Memorial Ceremony

On February 24th, the Department of History and Archeology organized a ceremony in the Khazar University Conference Hall to commemorate the Khojaly Genocide. Dr. Boran Aziz, Associate Professor of the Department of Azerbaijani History (for Humanities) at Baku State University, made a presentation about the details of the Khojaly Genocide, answered students’ questions, and presented a special video about the tragedy. Active students of Student Union participated at the meeting.


 

 


 

 

Khojaly Tragedy Remembered in School of Economics and Management Event

On February 27th, an event to commemorate the Khojaly Tragedy was held by the Khazar University School of Economics and Management. Nana Kalantarli of the School of Economics and Management, Ulviyya Ibrahimova of the History Department, and Elza Ismayilova of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature and  Aziza Jafarli of Student Union participated in the event, which began with a moment of silence to commemorate the victims of the tragedy.

 Student Union Parliament Meeting

On February 27th, a meeting of the Khazar University Student Union Parliament was held in the Conference Hall. The meeting began with a moment of silence to commemorate the Khojaly tragedy. Then speeches were made by Student Union President Mirzeagha Samadov, Vice President Aziza Jafarli, and deputies Ruslan Ismayilov, Jalal Huseynbeyli and Jeyhun Jabayev. At the meeting, the rules and schedule for a trivia competition were determined and decisions were made about training events and about creating a bell system in the university. The Student Union agreed to hold a referendum in April. A trip to visit Dunya School was also scheduled for March 5 at 15:00. 

 

 


      Chinese Spring Festival at Khazar University

On March 4th, the Khazar University Library-Information Center (LIC) held a Chinese Spring Festival celebration. Gulshan Mehdiyeva, LIC Director, opened the event by greeting the participants. Then she and Saida Orujova, LIC staff member, gave a bilingual presentation about the Chinese Spring Festival. 

Hu Fenghua, Director of the Confucius Institute, also made a speech to greet and thank participants. Then Khazar University students and Chinese instructors performed in a talent show. Certificates were given to active participants.

Active students of Student Union also participate at this festival
