Meeting within Startup Azerbaijan


On April 24, within the Startup Azerbaijan project, a meeting was held at Khazar University with team members of Startup and startup owners. Representatives of the State Fund for the Development of IT under the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the meeting, which was also attended by faculty and students of Khazar University.

Leyla Muradkhanli, Head of Khazar University’s Department of Computer Science, opened the meeting and gave information about its purpose.

Osman Gunduz, Member of Startup Azerbaijan’s Organizing Committee and President of AIF, talked about internet business, the Startup Azerbaijan Project and Startup Competition. Then Anar Jafarov, representative of the State Fund for the Development of IT, gave information about the grant competition announced by the fund and rules for submission of projects.

Elshad Yusifli, owner of the NETTRENDS national startup and member of the Startup Azerbaijan team, informed participants about the history, current state and development prospects of Startup.

Development of Training Network for Improving Education in Energy Saving: 4th Management Meeting and Workshops


On 16-17 April, 2014, the 4th management meeting of the TEMPUS  Project “Development of Training Network for Improving Education in Energy Saving (ENERGY)”  and Workshops were held at Khazar University. 

The main objective of the project is to enhance networking among higher education institutions across the Partner Countries and EU Member States for improving education in the field of  energy efficiency enhancement, energy saving and use of renewable sources of energy.

The project is coordinated by Riga Technical University. The project consortium consists of partner universities from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belgium, Poland, Romania, Belarus, Kosovo and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is represented by Khazar University, Qafqaz University and the National Aviation Academy.

The participants discussed different issues related to the project progress, preparation of English versions of 10 course books, elaboration of new curricula, project deliverables, purchase of equipment, etc. Textbooks on gas, hydrodynamics, solar and photovoltaic energy were discussed in the workshops.

Staff at "Microsoft Innovation Day"


On March 13,  Dr. Leila Muradkhanli, Head of the Computer Science Department, and Agshin Veliyev, Manager of the Procurement Department,  participated in the "Microsoft Innovation Day" event organized by Microsoft Azerbaijan. “Microsoft Innovation Day” was devoted to the "Devices and Services" strategy of the corporation, and the latest technological innovations were demonstrated.

During the event, the representatives of Microsoft Azerbaijan gave information about using "Cloud" services in personal life and business with Windows-based devices. The  program is designed for business and daily use, and the possibility of devices being able to work as an integrated system was demonstrated. At the same time, information was given about  opportunities to increase the efficiency of firms through services such as "Outlook.com", "OneDrive", "Office Online" and "Office 365."

In the second part of "Microsoft Innovation Day," the "Windows Azure" cloud platform was presented and its advantages were discussed. Backup functions, creating a virtual machine, and other features were also demonstrated with "Windows Azure" at the event.



Head of the Computer Science Department Visits Poland


For the entire month of November 2013, Associate Professor Leyla Muradkhanli, Head of the Computer Science Department, visited Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland in the framework of the ELECTRA Erasmus Mundus Program. She received a scholarship for a staff exchange for one month.

The objective of the mobility was teaching, research and exchange ideas and good practices in the area of Computer Science and e-learning. During this period Dr. Leyla Muradkhanli taught a course on “Artificial Intelligence Industrial Applications” for Applied Computer Science students. More than 70 students attended lectures and received credits.

She visited the Institute of Computer Science and Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, where she met with faculty and staff. They discussed a curriculum review for BSc, MSc and PhD programs in Computer Science. She also shared her experience in online course design for an e-learning center and was introduced to theUniversity Study-Oriented System (USOS), an integrated student management information system for handling student affairs at Polish universities.

Dr. Leyla Muradkhanli made several presentations about Azerbaijan, Khazar University and “Implementation of learning in Azerbaijan” for Jagiellonian University’s faculty and staff.



Presentation of Microsoft Azerbaijan


On April 25, with the support of the Department of Computer Science and Career Center, Microsoft Azerbaijan Company made a presentation on  "Microsoft in Education" at Khazar University.  Providing information about the company, Emin Akhundov, a representative of Microsoft Azerbaijan, talked about Microsoft's products used in education, students’ free access to certain programs and new prospects in the field of information technology. At the end of the presentation, Emin Akhundov answered students’ questions.

Microsoft Innovation Day


On March 6, 2013, Head of Computer Science Department of Khazar University, Dr. Leyla Muradkhanli, and Director of Internet Institute, Rashad Aliyev, participated in the “Microsoft Innovation Day” event organized by Microsoft Azerbaijan.  New Microsoft products such as Windows 8,  The New Office,  System Center 2012 and  Windows Server 2012 were presented in this event. The event was held in the “Four Seasons” hotel.



Roundtable with Representatives of Canadian University


On January 18, 2013, a meeting was held at Khazar University with representatives of Waterloo University. Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees; Professor Mahammad Nuriyev, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Eldar Shahgaldiyev, Head of the Division of Graduate Studies and Research; Alovsat Amirbayli,Leyla Muradkhanli, Head of the Computer Science department, Coordinator of Public Relations and Media; Calvin Tiessen, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature; Daniel Paul, Khazar University instructor; Richard Rousseau, Head of the Department of Political Sciences; Baba Bayramli, Coordinator of the Department of Political Sciences; Jabir Khalilov, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Jabir Mammadli, Coordinator of the Department of Journalism; and PhD students of Khazar University participated in the meeting. Topics such as “Screening Azerbaijan: Cinema’s role in Constructing and Exporting National Identity,” “Female Leadership in Azerbaijan: Comparing women’s roles in refugee and IDP communities and mainstream population,” and “Culture and Identity Production in Baku, Azerbaijan” were discussed at the meeting.

University ICT Meeting


On December 10, the founder of Khazar University and chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, had a meeting on the current situation of ICT infrastructure at the University with faculty of the School of Engineering and Computer Science and University staff as well. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Mahammad Nuriyev, reported on ICT-related issues. The report was discussed and decisions were made regarding current ICT issues and possible solutions, reengineering of ICT infrastructure, and development of E-culture at Khazar University.



Colleague Attends Conference in Berlin


On November 26-30, Head of the Computer Science Department, Associate Professor Leyla Muradkhanli, will participate in the International Conference "Online Educa Berlin" in Berlin, Germany (http://www.online-educa.com/the-conference). 



e-Learning Workshop for Azerbaijani e-Learning Network members


On November 7-8, 2012, Head of the Computer Science Department, Associate Professor Leyla Muradkhanli, and Director of the Quality Assurance Center, Lyudmila Sotova, participated in the  e-Learning workshop for Azerbaijani e-Learning Network members organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The workshop was hosted by Qafqaz University. Azerbaijani e-Learning Network members from Qafqaz University, Azerbaijan Tourism University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and Institute of Information Technology of ANAS also participated in this workshop.

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Andreas Hörfurter of Common Sense eLearning consultants, Vienna (Austria). The following topics were covered in the workshop: development of a roadmap for the next round of training, from e-Learning training to consultancy, advanced tools, etc.

Employee Participates in Regional E-Learning Workshop


On October 20-23, 2012, Head of the Computer Science Department, Associate Professor Leyla Muradkhanli, participated in the Regional E-Learning Workshop 2012 of the South Caucasus E-Learning Network organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Germany, at the E-Academy in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The Regional eLearning Workshop addressed the topics on development and implementation of virtual master’s programs, e-Learning marketing, set up and services of the e-teaching service center,  interactive workshop facilitation, mobile learning, instructional possibilities of Moodle 2.0+ and about the upgrade of Moodle 1.9 to 2.0+.
