International Teachers’ Day Celebrated in Binagadi District 


On October 5, the Binagadi District Executive Power and the Binagadi District Committee of Azerbaijan Educators’ Independent Trade Union jointly organized an event to mark International Teachers’ Day in the New Azerbaijan Party executive building in Binagadi.

Participants in the event included Ilgar Suleymanov, First Deputy to the Head of the Binagadi District Executive Power; Agil Abbas, Member of Parliament; Huseyn Asgarov, Deputy to the Head of the Baku City Board of Education; Professor Ajdar Aghayev, Honored Teacher and Chairman of the Republic Education Council; Professor Asef Zamanov, Rector of the Baku Pedagogical Personnel Extended Learning and Re-Training Institute as well as Chairman of the Intellectuals’ Society of Binagadi District; Almaz Hajiyeva, Chairman of the Chairman of the Republic Committee of Azerbaijan Educators’ Independent Trade Union; Mirza Jafarzade, Deputy Chairman of the Republic Committee of Azerbaijan Educators’ Independent Trade Union; and representatives of educational institutions operating in the district.

The first speech of the event was made by Agil Abbas, who noted the responsibility required in the honorable teaching profession and said that teachers should always be role models of good citizenship in their convictions, their professionalism and their morality.

Huseyn Asgarov, Deputy to the Head of the Baku City Board of Education, emphasized that teachers are the ones who instill a love of the country in students and prepare them to defend the nation. He said that the strength of the nation’s future depends on the teachers’ knowledge.

Professor Ajdar Aghayev, Honored Teacher and Chairman of the Republic Education Council, noted that the Binagadi District pays careful attention to education and that the achievements accomplished in this area are the result of district administrators’ attention to the schools.

Ilgar Suleymanov, First Deputy to the Head of the Binagadi District Executive Power, also made a speech saying that the country has seen memorable achievements in education as well as in other areas in recent years. He mentioned multiple times in his speech that these successes are clear evidence of the effectiveness of President Ilham Aliyev’s education policy, which emphasizes the key role of schools and education in the upbringing of the young generation.

Then certificates and awards from the Head of the District Executive Power were given to a group of teachers for their active participation in the civil society of the district and for their accomplishments in the field of education. The Khazar University Chamber Orchestra performed a concert during the artistic portion of the event.

 


 

 

Khazar University Chamber Ensemble Performs at Memorial Ceremony held at U. Hajibayli House Museum

 

On September 18, an event was held at the U. Hajibayli house museum on the occasion of National Music Day.

The museum's director Sardar Farajov, Honored Art Worker and secretary of the Composers’ Union of Azerbaijan,  made a presentation in which he  spoke about the history of this significant day which has a special place in our cultural history. He noted that the immortal works of the great composer U. Hajibayli are still loved and appreciated by people around the world.

He stressed the importance of the international music festival regularly organized by Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to promote Hajibayli’s heritage and national music. Ali Ibrahimbeyli, Head of Gamigaya Science and Education Center, made a presentation and gave the participants a photo album produced by the Center entitled "Great Composers of Azerbaijan.”

The album was prepared with the assistance of the Composers’ Union using photographs gathered from archives and cultural institutions. Ibrahimbeyli emphasized the need for such publications for the purpose of learning about famous composers and introducing Azerbaijani music to the world. Professor Telman Agdamski, Honored Teacher, made a presentation and talked about Hajibayli’s heritage. The chairman of the Karabakh branch of the Writers' Union, Poet Anvar Ahmad, recited a poem dedicated to the composer.

 After the presentations, a concert was given including performances of Hajibayli’s songs by the ensemble of the School of Fine Arts named after G. Garayev, the chamber ensemble of Khazar University, and Music School № 35 named after G. Sharoyev.


Opening Ceremony of New Academic Year at Khazar University

 

On September 15th, the opening ceremony of the new academic year was held at Khazar University. New first-year university students and their parents, other students, the university administration and faculty participated in the event. The ceremony began with the sounding of the national anthem, and then Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, made a presentation congratulating teachers and students, especially first-year students, with the new school year; wishing them good luck; giving detailed information about the university; and speaking about achievements. Then H.Isaxanli presented student cards to the students who earned high scores on their entrance exams.

After the ceremony, a concert was given with performances by university students, then students were invited into their classrooms and the new school year began.

 


Khazar Chamber Orchestra Performance

 

On June 17, 2014, the Khazar Chamber Orchestra, led by Zulfiyya Sadigova, Head of the Department of Music and Fine Arts, made a performance for Her Majesty’s Birthday Celebration at the Marriot Hotel in Baku. The orchestra played the British national anthem, “God Save the Queen,” and provided music to open the event, which was attended by representatives and guests of the British Embassy in Baku.

Elizabeth White, Director of British Council Azerbaijan, said, “We were honored to have the Khazar Chamber Orchestra play for our reception. I've never heard God Save the Queen played and sung with such bold energy and commanding presence, and the two anthems started the reception off with the right note of celebration. And later on in the reception we had the pleasure of hearing the orchestra play from their repertoire. Many people commented on their playing, and what a pleasure it was to have a chamber orchestra there.” 

 


Instructor of Music and Fine Arts Department on Public TV

 

On April 10, Honored Artist Fidan Haciyeva, instructor of Khazar University’s Department of Music and Fine Arts, was a guest on Public TV's "Morning" program. F. Hajiyeva made a vocal performance on the program and talked about involving students in the creative work of Khazar University and her successes in this field.

 


 

Success of Our Creative Students


Every year since 2007, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has carried out the "Student Spring" National Student Creativity Festival among students of higher educational institutions. This year, as in recent years, Khazar University participated in the festival held on April 2nd.

The university's chamber orchestra performed works by Strauss and Sardar Farajov, 4th year student of the School of Education, Elchin Feyzullayev, sang Hasan Khan's aria from Uzeyir Hajibayli’s opera Koroghlu, and the dance ensemble performed "Dances of the peoples of the world." The students’ performances were met with sincere applause from the jury and an audience consisting of other university students. They were awarded first place.  This is the our students’ fifth victory in this festival in the last five years. The presentation of diplomas and a gala concert will be held in Guba on May 28.

 


Music Department Faculty Members Perform in London


On March 7, soloist of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and instructor of Khazar University, Honored Artist Fidan Hajiyeva, and Head of Khazar University's Department of Music and Fine Arts, pianist Zulfiyye Sadigova, gave a solo concert entitled "Sounds of Spring" at the "Kings Place" Concert hall of London.  Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Great Britain, Fakhraddin Gurbanov, opened the concert and  gave information on Azerbaijani music performance to the  audience. Then, performers performed various songs from the treasury of Azerbaijan and world music.

Numerous guests,  including ambassadors from Turkey and Germany to Great Britain, as well as high-ranking officials of the UK, participated in the high-level event.  The performance of our artists was met with warm applause from the audience. At the end of the event, organizer of the concert Farida Panahova made a presentation and
expressed her gratitude to the performers and the audience.

 


Event Entitled "My Motherland" was Held


On December 19, with the joint coordination of the "Shirvanshahlar Palace" State Historical-Architectural Reserve/Museum and the Music and Fine Arts Department of Khazar University, an event entitled "My Motherland," which was dedicated to 31 December- World Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity Day,  was held at the "Art Garden" Art Center.

Deputy Director of the reserve/museum, Tarana Balayeva, opened the event. Then a Solidarity Day-themed exhibition of paintings and handicrafts of Khazar University students was shown.

Head of the Department of Azerbaijan Language of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Philology, Professor Azizxan Tanriverdi, and senior lecturer in the same university, linguist Ilham Abbasov, spoke on the subject.

The event continued with a concert program. The concert began with the overture of the operetta "Arshin mal alan," which was performed by the Khazar University Chamber Ensemble. 
The university's student choir (led by Mehseti Jabbarova) also performed the second movement of "Fizuli Cantata " of C. Jahangirov (with soloist, first-year student of the School of Education, Nermin Jafarly); Girls’ Song; Kerkuk’s song from "Arshin mal alan;” and Polad Bulbuloglu’s song "Happy Azerbaijan."

Vocalists sang "Azerbaijani Lands" by F.Amirov  (soloist - student of School of Engineering and Applied Science, Gunel Sabzaliyeva) and  "Land of Fire" by M. Mogamayev (soloist- student of the School of Education, Elchin Feyzullayev). The university boys’ and girls’ dance ensemble (Instructors-Sabina Minasazova and Telman Aliyev) performed T.Guliyev’s "Gaytagi," E. Sabitoglu’s "I'm Coming from Ganja" and a Venezuelan dance.  Azerbaijan and Western European composers’ works were played by the Chamber Ensemble.

BMA Youth Chamber Orchestra Concert in Khazar University’s "World" Concert Hall


On December 13, the Youth Chamber Orchestra of Baku Music Academy (BMA) named after U. Hajibeyli gave a concert in memory of Fikrat Amirov’s 90th anniversary and Niyazi’s 100th anniversary at Khazar University’s “World” concert hall. The conductor was Tofig Bayramov, the art director and chief conductor of the orchestra, honored teacher, and professor of BMA.

Before the concert, the director of the orchestra, professor of BMA and instructor at Khazar University’s "Dunya" school, People’s Artist Yegane Akhundova made a presentation, talking about the establishment and activities of the orchestra.

 The founder of Khazar University and chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, said that it is a significant event to found such an orchestra, and wished good luck to the young team.

The orchestra performed pieces by Uzeir Hajibeyli, Fikret Amirov, Niyazi, Qara Qarayev, Tofiq Guliyev, Agshin Alizadeh and foreign composers. Soloists were A. Riza and Afag Abasova. The orchestra's performance was met with great interest on the part of the audience, made up of staff and students of Khazar University.

 

 


Presentation Ceremony of Honorary Doctorate Diploma of Khazar University to Composer Arif Malikov


On December 18, a presentation ceremony was held to confer an Honorary Doctorate Diploma of Khazar University upon the Azerbaijani People's Artist, world-renowned composer Arif Malikov, at the "World" Concert Hall of Khazar University. The founder of Khazar University and chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, opened the ceremony by reading a decision of the Scientific/Administrative Council of the university to confer the Honorary Doctorate on A. Malikov. Then he presented the honorary degree to the composer. A. Malikov expressed gratitude to the university administration and made a presentation on "Musical Culture."

The ceremony continued with a concert. Performances included works of the honored composer prepared by professional musicians as well as by teachers and students of the university.

At first, Malilov’s work "Superficial Moments" written for piano was performed by Professor of Baku Music Academy named after U. Hajibeyli, Honored Artist Ulviyya Hajiyeva. Honored Artist, singer of the Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M. Akhundov, Farida Mammadova; Honored Artist and instructor of Khazar University, Anar Shushali; and instructor of Khazar University, Mehseti Jabbarova performed the songs "You,” "Again, about you,” "Lullaby,” and "Stop, do a favor,” all of which are written to lyrics of the poet Nazim Hikmet.

Violinist Jeyla Seyidova, a student of Baku Music Academy named after U. Hajibeyli and laureate of international competitions, performed "Dreams of Komden” from the ballet "Legend of Love." Honored Artist, Professor Samira Asumova accompanied the performance on the piano.

Then the first works of Arif Melikov, two piano preludes, were performed by Director of the Music and Fine Arts Department of Khazar University, pianist Zulfiya Sadigova. At the end of the concert, a selection from the ballet “Legend of Love" ballet was performed by Khazar University's dance ensemble for the first time. Instructor of Khazar University, Sabina Minasazova, had choreographed the performance.

The concert performances were met with thunderous applause several times.

 

 


Cultural Center Opened at Khazar University


On March 1, the opening ceremony for a new Cultural Center was held at Khazar University. After cutting the ribbon, the founder of Khazar University and chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, opened the ceremony. Then the ceremony participants -- university students, Vice Presidents Muhammad Nuriyev and Rafig Ahmedov, deans and department heads, other employees and guests -- entered the Cultural Center and looked at the exhibition.

Director of the Department of Music and Fine Arts, Zulfiyya Sadigova, opened the ceremony, noting that from the university’s earliest years, a number of internal organizations in the fields of science, education, and culture have been operating successfully. She said that one such organization is the Cultural Center, and she gave information about the activities of the center. The Music and Fine Arts Department’s new page on the university’s website was also presented at the ceremony. The assistant to the Director of the Internet Institute made the presentation. The ceremony coincided with birthday of Professor Hamlet Isaxanli. Participants congratulated him, wishing him further success in his scientific, educational and literary activities. H. Isaxanli expressed his gratitude to the employees who participated in the creation of the Cultural Center and to the staff for their kind words on the occasion of his birthday. An interesting concert program was also given at the ceremony with the participation of university teachers and students.

 

 


"Turan Wreath” Literary and Artistic Composition


On March 6, a literary and artistic composition entitled "Turan Wreath” dedicated to 8 March, International Women's Day, was held at the Marble Hall of the university. The administration and staff of the university participated in the event. The director of the Department of Music and Fine Arts of the university, pianist Zulfiyya Sadigova, opened the literary and artistic composition.

The event continued with an exhibition of the paintings of instructor of the university, artist Afag Karimova, which are devoted to images of Turkish intellectual women. They were explained by the artist. Afag Karimova, who was also the initiator of the event, spoke about the role of women through history in social and political life. The portraits of Agabeyim Agca, daughter of  Ibrahim Khalil Khan of Karabakh Khan; Khurshudbanu Natavan; Nigar Refibeyli; Turan Javid, daughter of well-known writer, Huseyn Javid; and Timsal, daughter of Karabekir Kazim Pasha, were displayed in the hall. A. Karimova also spoke about her publications.

One of memorable moment in the event was the speech made by of Timsal Karabekir, daughter of Turkey's outstanding military and political figure, General Kazim Karabekir Pasha. The guest said that she is proud to visit Azerbaijan and Khazar University. She thanked the Turan Creative Center, Khazar University, and particularly Professor Hamlet Isaxanli for this opportunity.

 

 


An Exhibition Devoted to "Arshin mal alan" (The Cloth Peddler)


On March 12,  an exhibition entitled "Arshin mal alan: setting, people, characters” was opened at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The exhibition is devoted to the 100th anniversary of one of the most vivid events in the history of Azerbaijani culture,  the musical comedy "Arshin mal alan" (The Cloth Peddler) written by the great Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov. By a decision of the General Conference of UNESCO, the 100-year anniversary of one of the most popular works of art in world music and the first operetta in the Muslim East,  "Arshin Mal Alan," is celebrated all over the world in 2013. More than 230 exhibits from the museum funds were displayed in the exhibition, the goal of which was to reflect the musical comedy’s position as well as its period of establishment in the history of world cultures. The participants  in the opening ceremony of the exhibition included Azerbaijan Member of Parliament, Aydin Mirzazade; Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Elmira Suleymanova; employees of Museums and theaters of Baku; scholars of the Academy of Sciences; instructors and students of Azerbaijan National Conservatory; Head of the Department of History and Archaeology of Khazar University, Roza Arazova; Head of the Department of Music and Fine Arts of Khazar University, Zulfiyye Sadigova; university students; and representatives of the press.

Making a presentation, the Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Naila Valikhanli, gave information about the "Arshin mal alan" musical comedy’s position in Azerbaijani culture and explained the principles of organization of the exhibition.

Led by Zulfiyye Sadigova, the Khazar University choir, girls’ dance ensemble, and soloists Gunel Sabzaliyeva, Elvin Aliyev and Seljan Musabayli  performed musical pieces from the operetta in Azerbaijani and English in the event.

 


Khazar University's 34th Graduation Ceremony


On March 17th, Khazar University’s 34th Graduation Ceremony was held in the “World” concert hall.  Graduates and their parents, students, administration and faculty of the university participated in the ceremony.

The ceremony began with the national anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic.  Then the floor was given to the founder of Khazar University and chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli. H. Isaxanli congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their future lives.  He talked about educational environment created at the university and its distinctive features, saying that the education system trains not only qualified experts but also develops the young generation. He also noted the efficient and hard work of the university faculty, multilateral relations with the world's leading universities, and university projects including the construction of a new campus meeting all modern standards, the continual development of the university’s material and technical foundation, and future large-scale endeavors such as the creation of a technopark.

Then diplomas were presented to the graduates by Vice Presidents of the university Mahammad Nuriyev and Rafig Ahmadov; deans of schools Siyavush Azakov, Jabir Khalilov; Head of the Division of Graduate Students and Research, Eldar Shahgaldiyev; Head of the Department of History and Archeology, Roza Arazova; and senior instructor Firangiz Nasirova.

Students making presentations expressed their gratitude to the administration and faculty, and  photos were taken with their instructors.

In the second part of the ceremony, a concert was given by the university's Department of Music and Fine Arts with the participation of students.

 


Dinner for Foreign Delegations at Founder’s Summer House


On May 22nd, foreign guests visiting Khazar University were invited to the summer home of the university founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Prof. Hamlet Isaxanli. The guests included representatives of Seoul University, Korea; representatives of Shanghai Normal University, China; Diana Altman of the Washington, D.C.-based Karabakh Foundation; Elizabeth White, Country Director of British Council for Azerbaijan; Mine Tonta, Business Manager for Turkey and Central Asia of Emerald Group Publishing Limited; and Khazar University faculty and staff members.

The Department of Music and Fine Arts of Khazar University prepared a concert including classical and Azerbaijani traditional music performed by faculty members Zulfiyya Sadigova, Mehseti Jabbarova, and Anar Shushali. Khazar University gifts were presented to the foreign visitors. A dinner was also given in honor of the guests.

 

 


Results Ceremony for the 10th Olympiad Conducted by Khazar University


On June 1, a ceremony was held at Khazar University’s World Concert Hall to announce the results of the 10th Olympiad held among eleventh grade students in Baku and different regions of Azerbaijan by Khazar University. Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Olympiad Preparation, Director of Public Relations and Media, Alovsat Amirbayli, made an extensive report. A. Amirbeyli gave information  about the work done and noted that the Olympiad was held on May 4 and 5 in Baku, Ganja, Sheki, Sumgait, Lenkeran, and Mingechevir. A total of 901 eleventh grade students in the country participated in the last round of the Olympiad. In general, eleventh grade students from 371 secondary schools and high schools participated in the Olympiad.

A student of Baku’s Nizami district secondary school № 32, Anar Dadashzadeh, earned 672 points on the test. He was awarded a certificate along with students who earned I, II, and III places. Diplomas, Khazar University awards and gifts from Azersun Holding Company were presented to the winners.

The founder of Khazar University and chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, Head of Nizami District Executive Power, Tahir Budagov, director of secondary school No 32, Sevda Abdullayeva, and others spoke and wished good luck to the winners in their upcoming university entrance examinations. Photos were taken. At the end of the ceremony, a concert was presented by the students of Khazar University. The event was covered by various TV channels. 



The Final Concert of the Academic Year


On June 21,   the final concert of the academic year was held at  the  "World" concert hall of Khazar University. The event opened by Head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology Mail Yagubov. He spoke about Azerbaijani and European classical music and informed participants about the concert.

Concert began with demonstration of some of the fragments of U.Hajibayli’s "Arshin mal alan" (The close peddler) operetta. Then, parts of great composer’s “ O olmasin, bu olsun” (If Not This One, That One!) operetta and "Koroglu" opera were  presented and  parts of Fikret Emirov’s "Sevil" opera were performed. Music evening continued with performances of Honored artist, Fidan Hajiyeva. 

Under the artistic leadership of concertmaster of the event , Head of Department of Music and Fine Art of Khazar University Zulfiyya Sadigova  and under the leadership of the soloist of Opera and Ballet Theatre, university instructor Mehseti Jabbarova, choir staff consisting of the students of Khazar University performed  Azerbaijani and world music samples. Led by the university instructor, Sabina Minasazova, dance ensemble performed parts of “Legend of Love” ballet of Arif Melikov.

At the end,  Khazar University’s founder and chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli  made ​​ final speech, and expressed his gratitude to the  event organizers, performers and audience.


Students’ Creative Exhibition


The Department of Music and Fine Arts, which displayed the musical creativity of its students in a concert held in the "World" Concert Hall of Khazar University on June 21, held a final exhibition reflecting their activities in the fields of painting, carpet weaving, and jewelry at the Cultural Center of the university on June 28. Khazar University’s founder and chairman of the Board of Directors and Trustees, Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, Vice President Rafig Akhmadov, deans, department heads, staff and students participated in the event.

Head of the Department of Music and Fine Arts, Zulfiyya Sadigova, opened the event and gave information about students’ activities during the academic year. After the exhibition, the event continued with poetry and music. Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature, Vurgun Eyyub, and Head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology, Mail Yagubov, recited poems of Azerbaijani poets. Then songs were performed by artists including Honored Artist Fidan Hajiyeva, Ilham Askeroglu, and university instructor, soloist of the Opera and Ballet Theatre, Mehseti Jabbarova. At the end, H. Isaxanli wished good luck to the students who displayed their works in the exhibition and expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the event and performers. The event was followed up with tea and refreshments.

Then Hamlet Isaxanli presented student cards to the students who had earned high scores on their entrance exams. On behalf of the students, Nadir Alizadeh made a presentation and noted that the new students intended to study hard at Khazar University to become qualified specialists.

After the ceremony, a concert was given with performances by university students; then students were invited into their classrooms and the new school year began.

 

 


Vocal Instructor’s Success in Paris


On September 17, an event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of great Azerbaijani composer U. Hajibayli’s “Arshin Mal Alan" musical comedy was held at the UNESCO headquarters as organized by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey’s TURKSOY agencies. The "Arshin Mal Alan" operetta was directed by Honored Art Worker of Azerbaijan Ali Usubov, conducted by People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, Professor Agaverdi Pashaev, and accompanied by Karakanda Symphonic Orchestra of Kazakhstan. The actors came from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Mehseti Jabbarova, Khazar University instructor and laureate of international competitions, artist of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Choir, and soloist for the Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M. F. Akhundov, played the role of Asya. She was awarded a UNESCO diploma and a message of thanks from TURKSOY for her successful performance.

The performance took place in Astana (capital of Kazakhstan) and Karakanda on September 13. 

 


Event Devoted to 100 Year Anniversary of "Arshin mal alan" Operetta


On October 25, an event devoted to the 100th anniversary of the operetta "Arshin mal alan" was organized at the museum house of Uzeir Hajibayli. The event was opened by the director of the Uzeir Hajibayli museum house, Honored Art Worker, composer Sardar Farajov. Then presentations were made about the history of the operetta by Chairman of the Union of Composers, People's Artist, Professor Firangiz Alizadeh; instructor at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Professor Telman Agdamski; director of Azerbaijan State Musical Theatre, Aligismat Lalayev; and Senior Academic Worker of the museum, Sevinj Guliyeva.  
  
Various scenes of the operetta were performed by soloists of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M. F. Axundov, Ilaha Efendiyeva and Ramin Gasimov; as well as soloists of Azerbaijan State Musical Theatre, Honored Artist Nargiz Karimova, Honored Artist Nahide Orujova, and Azizagha Azizov. Employees of the Department of Music and Fine Arts of Khazar University were invited to the event. Student of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Elvin Aliyev, played the role of Asger. Head of the Department of Music and Fine Arts, Zulfiyya Sadigova, accompanied the performances on piano.
